The Georgetown Global Health Nigeria (GGHN) is the operational arm and an affiliate of Georgetown University Centre for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) in Nigeria. GGHN is a Non–profit, Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria that promotes best practices in health care delivery and research using local and internationally adapted models to strengthen health systems.

Job Title: Public Relations, Media, and Communication Specialist
Location: Abuja (FCT)

Job Description
- The Public Relations (PR), Media, and
Communications Specialist is responsible for managing the organization's
communication initiatives with stakeholders, and media personnel.
- The Ideal candidate will use verbal,
non-verbal, visual, and written appealing designs to create varying
content within acceptable communications standards, policies, and laws,
that amplify the organization's activities.
Responsibilities
- Designing, implementing, and coordinating
GGHN’s Public Relations, Media and Communication Strategy
- Creating researched Strategic and
implementation plans for GGHN as well as project-specific (where donor
requirements are available) including strategy, goals, budget, and tactics
- Developing and executing effective PR,
Media, and communication activities to reach various target audiences and
achieve organizational goals (including in applicable languages and local
dialects)
- Monitoring, evaluation, and improvement
upon best practices and areas of weakness
- Developing and maintaining GGHN Brand
style ad voice:
- Creating style guides and brand voice
outlines for all public relations, marketing, advertising, and other
vital departments
- Collaborating with other teams to
identify the public voice of the brand
- Developing Communication materials and
products
- Crafting clear and persuasive content for
internal and external communication channels such as newsletters, press
releases, social media posts, and website content.
- Creating visually appealing designs to
support PR and communication initiatives
- Drafting press releases and speeches
following organizational news.
- Writing letters, interdepartmental memos,
and other business correspondence, where applicable.
- Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and
appropriate style and tone.
- Internal communication:
- Jointly plan and implement an effective
internal communication strategy with the organization’s IT unit, to
ensure effective information flow within the organization. This includes
drafting and distributing memos, emails, and newsletters, and facilitating
communication between different departments or teams.
- External Communication:
- Developing a media relations strategy,
seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast, and online media:
- Communicating with media outlets and
journalists and creating press kits.
- Building relationships with journalists
and media outlets to promote the organization's message, responding to
media inquiries, and organizing press releases and media events.
- Directing social media engagements of
audiences across traditional and new media:
- Managing social media accounts, website
content, and online platforms to engage with target audiences, monitor
trends, and maintain a strong online presence.
- Health Promotion:
- Work with respective GGHN units and
projects, to plan and execute campaigns to enhance the organization's
reputation and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders,
customers, and the public.
- Crisis communication:
- Working with the Health protection unit
in, developing and implementing crisis communication strategies to
respond to emergencies, mitigate potential damage to the organization's
reputation, and communicate information effectively during challenging
situations.
- Stakeholder management and networking:
- Work with the Portfolio Project
Management Unit in building relationships with key stakeholders,
collaborating with team members across different departments, and
representing the organization at meetings, conferences, or events.
- Research, analysis, and reporting:
- Performing communications research and
monitoring the progress of various communications strategies
- Collecting and analyzing data related to
communication efforts, monitoring key performance indicators, and
producing reports to evaluate the effectiveness of communication
strategies and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Learning and Capacity Development:
- Demonstrated commitment to reflective
learning, as well as the creation, dissemination, application, and
translation of Public Relations, Media, and Communication knowledge
through continuous self-learning, training, mentoring, and coaching
achieved by:
- Active participation in key professional
body activities
- Completion of quarterly self-learning
target
- Development of internal and external
learning content that promotes the field of Public Relations, Media, and
Communication (via webinars, etc)
- Training and mentoring on approaches for
Practicing and conducting Public Relations, Media, and Communication
activities and studies.
- Serve as a mentor to assigned interns and
fellows.
- Participate in any other capacity
development efforts as assigned:
- Developing materials to educate staff on
communication practices, donor specifications, and government laws and
policies.
- Supervisor and mentoring:
- Coaching and assisting team members in
improving communication skill
Work Demands
- Ability to work in a fast-paced
environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Flexibility to work outside regular
business hours in case of emergencies or urgent situations.
- Able to travel often and with short
notice.
Requirements
and Skills
Education:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication,
Communication, Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Graphic Design, or
a related discipline. A Master's Degree in an added advantage
Professional Membership:
- Be a member of the Nigerian Institute of
Public Relations (NIPR) and any other relevant Media unions and
associations within or outside Nigeria.
Work Experience:
- Must have at least 5 years of practice and
experience in most of the items in the job description.
- Proven working experience in public
relations required
- Proven track record designing and
executing successful public relations campaigns at both a local and
national level
- Strong relationships with both local and
national business and industry media outlets
- Experience in acting as a company
spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media
interviews
- Event planning experience
Skills
Communication:
- Exceptional writing and editing skills,
with the ability to process complex information into clear and concise
messages.
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Possess Full professional proficiency
(Level 4/ Superior*) or Primary fluency / bilingual proficiency (Level 5/
Distinguished*) in English, and either Igbo, Hausa, or Yoruba. Proficiency
in additional Nigerian languages and French, Portuguese, or Arabic is an
added advantage.
Digital Communication and technology:
- Solid experience with social media
including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc
- Proficient in using various Media
equipment.
Design:
- Proficiency in graphic design software
such as Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong visual design skills, including an
eye for good typography, composition, and use of color
Additional Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to
collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including scientists, government
officials, and community members.
- Attention to detail and ability to analyze
data and research to inform communication strategies.
- Familiarity with public health issues and
current events.
- To be successfully shortlisted for this
