Job Description

  • We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Engineering with expertise in solar energy to lead our engineering team in Lagos. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in solar power systems and extensive experience in engineering management. As the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering activities related to solar projects, from design and implementation to maintenance and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering team in the design, development, and implementation of solar energy systems, including photovoltaic (PV) arrays, inverters, battery storage, and monitoring systems.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on solar energy technologies, components, and system integration to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, project management, and operations, to develop innovative solar solutions that meet customer requirements and project objectives.
  • Manage the entire lifecycle of solar projects, from initial concept and feasibility assessment to design, installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to evaluate the feasibility of solar installations, assess shading issues, roof orientation, and rack positioning for battery storage.
  • Oversee the procurement of solar equipment and components, including negotiating contracts with suppliers, ensuring quality standards, and managing inventory levels.
  • Develop and implement engineering standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and quality requirements.
  • Provide technical support and training to the engineering team to enhance their skills and capabilities in solar design, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of installed solar systems, conduct regular inspections, and implement optimization strategies to maximize energy production and efficiency.
  • Stay updated on emerging solar technologies, trends, and best practices to drive innovation and continuous improvement in our solar offerings.
  • Represent the company in technical discussions, industry forums, and customer meetings to promote our expertise in solar energy solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards in the design and implementation of solar projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in solar energy engineering, including design, installation, and project management.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading engineering teams and delivering solar projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong technical knowledge of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, inverters, battery storage, and monitoring technologies.
  • Familiarity with solar modeling software, CAD tools, and electrical design software.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional certifications in solar energy or engineering management (e.g., NABCEP, PMP) preferred.
  • Experience working in the Nigerian solar market and familiarity with local regulations and incentives for renewable energy projects.
