Job Title: Tailoring Tutor for Adolescents and Young Children

Duration: 3 months

Description

  • We are seeking a talented and passionate Fashion Design and Tailoring tutor to join our team, specializing in providing hands-on sewing and tailoring instruction to adolescents and young children. This role involves teaching basic sewing skills, garment construction techniques, and fostering creativity and confidence in young learners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tailoring, excellent communication skills, and a genuine interest in nurturing the creativity and skills of young individuals.

Sewing Instruction:

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate sewing curriculum and lesson plans for adolescents and young children, covering basic to intermediate sewing techniques.
  • Teach fundamental sewing skills, including threading a sewing machine, stitching, hemming, and seam finishing.
  • Demonstrate proper use of sewing tools and equipment, ensuring safety and proper maintenance.

Garment Construction:

  • Guide students through the process of garment construction, from reading and interpreting patterns to cutting fabric and assembling pieces.
  • Teach techniques for fitting garments, adjusting patterns, and making alterations to achieve desired fit and style.

Fabric Selection and Care:

  • Educate students on different types of fabrics, their characteristics, and suitability for various projects.
  • Discuss fabric care and maintenance techniques, including washing, pressing, and storing fabric to prolong its lifespan.

Creative Projects and Design:

  • Inspire creativity and individuality through hands-on sewing projects and design challenges.
  • Encourage students to explore their personal style and express themselves through fabric selection, embellishments, and customization.

Mentorship and Support:

  • Provide guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback to students, helping them build confidence and develop their sewing skills.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered to learn and grow.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Higher diploma/Certificate in fashion design, textiles, or a related field from a recognized technical training institution.
  • More than 3 years of teaching experience in tailoring, sewing and fashion design.
  • Experience teaching adolescents and young people.

COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and connect with young persons.
  • A deep understanding of tailoring, sewing, and garment construction techniques.
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach proper use of tailoring tools and machines to their students.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective lessons to their students.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with adolescents and young people.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to undergo background checks and any necessary certifications related to working with children.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate class schedules and events
