Job Title: Tie and Dye Tutor for Adolescents and Young People

Location: Mushin, Lagos

Duration: 3 months

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a talented and passionate Tie and Dye Tutor to join our team, specializing in providing hands-on textile design and tailoring instruction to adolescents and young children.
  • This role involves teaching basic sewing skills, garment construction techniques, and fostering creativity and confidence in young learners.
  • The ideal candidate will have the skills to create visually appealing textiles with excellent communication abilities and a genuine interest in nurturing the creativity and skills of other young individuals. Past beneficiaries of the AYP Hub in Mushin are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
Tie and Dye Instruction:

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate Tie and Dye curriculum and lesson plans for adolescents and young children, covering basic to intermediate Tie and Dye techniques.
  • Teach fundamental skills for creating visually appealing materials using Tie and Dye.
  • Demonstrate the proper use of Tie and Dye tools and equipment, ensuring safety and proper maintenance.

Garment Construction:

  • Guide students through the process of garment color selection and pattern design, ensuring creativity and personalization.
  • Provide instruction on basic sewing techniques to create simple garments from tie-dyed fabrics.

Fabric Selection and Care:

  • Educate students on different types of fabrics, their characteristics, and suitability for various projects.
  • Discuss fabric care and maintenance techniques, including washing, pressing, and storing fabric to prolong its lifespan.

Creative Projects and Design:

  • Inspire creativity and individuality through personalized Tie and Dye projects and design challenges.
  • Encourage students to explore their personal style and express themselves through fabric, color selection, and customization.

Mentorship and Support:

  • Provide guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback to students, helping them build confidence and develop their skills.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered to learn and grow.

Qualifications

  • Related vocational certifications if applicable.
  • SSCE minimum.
  • Experience teaching adolescents and young people.

Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and connect with young persons.
  • A deep understanding of tailoring, sewing, and garment construction techniques.
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach proper use of tailoring tools and machines to their students.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective lessons to students.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with adolescents and young people.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to undergo background checks and any necessary certifications related to working with children.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate class schedules and events.
